a week ago today i turned 36 years old. it was a hard week. a good week, but a hard one none the less.
i kept finding myself looking at the mirror... even worse, my daughter had her senior pictures done and my friend decided that it was a good idea to take a few pictures of me as well. so not only have i been staring at myself in the mirror, now i have there pictures of myself to stare at. i have posted one of them on this page to remind me of where i am beginning this journey. when i saw this photo i panicked! "who is that? that can't be me! i'm big.... but i'm not that big! ... ummm....look again, that's definitely you."
so here we are.
this is my journey.
i've already taken a fews steps on this LONG road ahead of me.
Step One: we joined the YMCA a few weeks ago.
Step Two: i have started a program called the Lord's Table. (it's a weght loss program)
Step Three: i am starting this blog. not really for you.... more to keep myself accountable. But if it somehow helps you along the way, even better! =)
i'm done making excuses.
it's time for a change.
so what are my goals?
1. to complete the Lord's Table. (it's a 60 day program)
2. go to the gym 5 - 6 days a week for at least 30 minutes.
3. i want to lose around 100 pounds. i don't know how long it's going to take me, but it doesn't really matter. it just needs to happen.
ok. that was harder than i thought.
today is a fast day. so i will only drink water until 7pm. i've already consumed 64 oz. of water today.
i went to the gym this morning and did weights (arms) for 50 mins. and treadmill for 30 mins. (it's amazing what having an mp3 player does to make the time pass by faster!)
that's all for now.

Hey Gal! It's Will. So proud of you chica! PLEASE let me know if I can help in anyway.
ReplyDeleteBe sure and work large muscle groups with the weights. Chest, Back and Legs. Large muscle groups = lots of calories burned!
Just one note on the Lord's Table fast. I believe they say a 24 hour fast, meaning if your last meal is at 7 pm, then be sure and eat something at 7pm the next day to "end the fast". I've worked with folks in the past that would say eat at 7pm on Sunday and not eat again until 7 am on Tuesday. Not a true 24 hour fast, but instead closer to 36 hours.
It'll kill the metabolism going that long.
I'm proud of you and GO FOR IT!!!!
Lots of Love,
Will Burgin
thanks WIll! i'm sure i'll be hitting you up for advise. =) and yes. i only go 24 hours. 7pm - 7pm. thanks again!
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Kara! I know it is hard work, but just keep putting one foot in front of the other. :)
ReplyDeleteYou will be a big encouragement to me too Kara. I too have 100 lbs to loose. It's so hard to see myself in pictures. I remember NOT wanting to get pregnant because I knew I wouldn't want to see myself in pictures with my baby and I knew I would WANT pictures of me with my baby. How sad is that. It's hard. Really hard. I gained 100 lbs the year after we got married for a thyroid gone kaput on me. Very frustrating & very hard to loose. I appreciate your honesty. It's awesome & refreshing. You can do it! I know you can! :) ((hugs)) Christy
ReplyDeleteGood job! I'm proud of you for taking a healthy, holistic approach: spiritual and physical. Exercise is awesome, and you don't even have to go to the gym 5-6 times a week. Typically, 3-4 times a week works well as a great start. Strongly consider a personal trainer who can also help with nutrition. Focus on eating right, which is a positive route rather than just forcing yourself to eat less.
ReplyDeleteKara!! I'm so proud of you, and I know you are going to do everything you set out! Just keep telling yourself you are not alone in this journey. Plus, podcasts keep your attention while working out, and that is something I need when I'm working out! I love the elipical becuase it's way low on impact for my knees and I feel my legs don't cramp up as bad as walking or running on the treadmill. And everything Will said...I like to do about 45 min on the E then I work out my arms, chest, back three reps each. The combo of strenght and cardio makes me feel great afterwards! But listen to your body and make sure not to over due it! Call me if you ever need encouragement mama!! LOVEYOU!-Nina
ReplyDeleteWow.... thanks everyone! i'm overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of support!!!!! thank you so much it really helps!
ReplyDeleteI think this is AMAZING of you - and your honest commitment to this is going to be such a great example to Maya too of how to tackle problems. I know you will do great!! I have lots of advice but will spare you almost all of it...except one little thing. If you're having "one of those days" and don't want to go to the gym, just tell yourself that you only have to go for 20 mins & if you don't feel better after that, you can go home. Helps balance persistence and realism! You are gonna KILL IT!!!
